Blueair Classic 480i Air Purifier Review: An Honest & Unbiased Look

The Blueair Classic 480i is an upgraded version of Classic 405. The Swedish Asthma and Allergy Association highly recommend these air purifiers in helping to prevent respiratory problems for chronic patients.

Unboxing the Blueair Classic 480i Air Purifier: Design & First Impressions

It is already well known that Blueair Classic family features a homogeneous minimalistic design. The unit is crafted from high-quality galvanized steel. Since this model is larger and heavier, you should consider buying a set of casters to help you out when you need to move the air purifier through the house.

There are some small changes introduced with the Classic 400 line. There are air grills on both sides of the purifier. This design optimizes the back to front airflow system, which we’ve seen with the Classic 200 line. The back to front airflow system is not the best option for the mid to high-range air purifiers. Typically, air purifiers in this range feature a 360 Degree airflow, or eventually, the new bottom-to-top airflow system.

The control panel is located on top of the air purifier, and it can be concealed with a cover flap. There are six LED icons on the control panel. They display the status of Wi-Fi connectivity, speed control, filter status, auto mode, VOC, and PM indicator.

Setting up this device is straightforward since you can control it manually or remotely via Wi-FI connection and Blueair Friend App that allows you to control the unit, as well to read PM and VOC quantities, temperature, and humidity.

Also, there is a possibility of using a child lock to prevent kids from messing up already preset settings.

Putting the Blueair Classic 480i Air Purifier to Work: Performance & Effectiveness

This unit is suitable for use in medium to large-sized rooms with CADR of 340 cubic meters per hour. The HEPASilent filter comes with a particle filter that guarantees superior performance with the power to capture almost all airborne pollutants such as pollen, dust, pet dander and hair, bacteria, and viruses.

The filter is clog-resistant, and it won’t re-release pollutants back into the air, even if the filter is heavily loaded and ready for replacement. This technology uses electrostatic cling to get particles electrically charged before transition through the mechanical filter, which helps in trapping particles that are smaller than 0.1 microns.

The fan speed is adjustable, and you can choose from three different levels of speed. The third and highest level is deafening. Luckily, this model comes with auto mode and Smart Sensor, so this means your purifier will automatically change the fan speed according to the quality of air in the room.

Considering air quality, you must be aware that the sensing accuracy of the PM and VOC indicator will not be very reliable if, for example, a large window is open. This will trigger indicators to read more significant amounts of pollutants, which can lead to an extended period of wrong readings.

From additional features, it is worth to mention that this device is ENERGY STAR rated, it comes with Night Mode that allows you to set fan speed and light during the night. The filter replacement indicator will switch from blue to orange to alert you when it is time for a replacement.
