Modular Closets provides a superior product, a more seamless online shopping experience, plus easier assembly that more customers love.
Modular Closets vs Easy Closets
Modular Closets was founded in 2015 with the goal of making custom closet systems affordable and accessible to the average American family. Modular Closets invented a modular cleat-based system (with a US Government patent) for greater weight capacity and easy assembly.
Easy Closets
Easy Closets claims to be the first online closet company and they offer a more traditional rail system. They provide a free design service and assembly is possible without professional help, but it does require more precision. Below is a table comparing Modular Closets vs. Easy Closets on the essential details.
Company | Modular Closets | Easy Closets |
Trustpilot Rating | Excellent | Average |
US Government Patent | Yes | No |
Price | $$ | $$$ |

Yes, on the surface, one can argue they’re pretty similar. They both use TFL wood, are made in the USA, offer free shipping on most orders, offer a lifetime warranty, and have fast shipping, however, there are some key factors that differentiate, and may I say, elevate Modular Closets.
Let’s dive into the differences, item by item.
1. Trustpilot Rating – Customers just love Modular Closets
Modular Closets
Modular Closets happens to be the only online closet company with an “Excellent” rating on Trustpilot. With more than 2,000 reviews and counting, consumers consistently give us 4 and 5-star reviews. Of course, you’ll find unhappy customers with the occasional hiccup on an order, but their customer service is swift to respond and rectify issues with relative speed.
Easy Closets
Easy Closets online reviews are unfortunately nothing to write home about. It seems they haven’t put in any work to grow their 3rd party verified reviews at all. I was only able to find 215 reviews on Facebook at 4.2 stars (not verified by a 3rd party), 95 on Yelp at 4 stars, 20 on Sitejabber at 3 stars, and 3 on Trustpilot at 3 stars.
Winner
While their customers might secretly love their product, we’ll never really know if they won’t tell us. But for some reason, Modular Closets customers aren’t at all shy about their enthusiasm for their product! Read some epic Modular Closets reviews here.
2. US Government Patent
Most closet systems use a rail system that runs across the wall and supports the entire closet. Like the Elfa system, here:
The Modular Closets system, however, uses a patented cleat system, where each unit (or “module”) is assembled individually and mounted to the wall. Like this:
This allows for the weight capacity to be concentrated within each unit and doesn’t require hairbreadth precision for the rail to be straight during installation.
3. Easy Online Shopping
While Easy Closets does have a website with an online design tool, there is no ability to shop for individual closet modules or components straight from the website. You need to either design a closet via the tool or request a design consultation via a form.
To be fair, this is true for most closet companies. Modular Closets have been an innovative force in the industry for making closet shopping not that dissimilar from fashion shopping. It’s browsing, click click click, add-to-cart, and check out!
That’s not to say they don’t offer design services. They do that too! You can use their 3D design tool or request a design from a seasoned closet designer. But having the option of easy online shopping is an entirely different experience.
4. Assembly & Installation
Compared to most other closet systems, Easy Closets does live up to its name: it is designed for DIY assembly. However. it may not be as easy as it sounds. A rail system requires a high level of precision since that is what supports the entire closet.
But like we mentioned above, the patented Modular Closets system is designed for easy assembly – no fancy engineering degree required! All parts are pre-cut and all holes are pre-drilled. Simple-to-follow assembly instructions + video guides are available here.
Conclusion
In the final analysis, it appears that the compelling mixture of ingredients offered by Modular Closets is what drives thousands of satisfied customers to flock online with raving 5-star reviews.
